As it so happens, Niki Harris fits both definitions. Working in New York doesn't seem to have worn down her spirit at all, and she's probably one of the most honest, sweet, and patient people you'll meet. However, by no means does this mean she is perfect.

Her mouth tends to get away from her sometimes, and though she'll usually take the time to think over her words, she can be a bit rash. This mostly happens if her brain is running faster than her muscles (in canon, when trying to reason out a motive for the murders, she accidentally says that the murderer would have done better to have killed her first). Also, she's very, very devoted to her job. If she wants to make a living, there's no way that she can't be.

Mind-wise, she is smart, but her attitude to her aptitude is a rather laid-back one. Although she likes to think of herself as something of a pragmatist, she follows her heart more often than her brain. Ideally, the two would work together, but sometimes this is not that case. She's very stable emotionally, and is quite liberal for her time (1959). The only things she has trouble swallowing are things for which she does not understand the motive.
